Baqai Institute of Health Management Sciences

Introduction

Baqai Medical University has contributed for improving health status of the community and strengthening the health systems of Pakistan, which has been commissioned through the Faculty of Health and Management Sciences. This is a unique and the first and foremost faculty in Pakistan, which has taken up the mandate of training and the leaders in public health as well as in health management.

Institute of health sciences

Located at Baqai Medical University premises, Baqai Institute of Health Management is the centre for the research and education in Public Health Sciences and preventive medicine.

It is the pioneer Institute of Pakistan, which offers Master in Public Health. The Institute provides an environment for multi-disciplinary research and training in health sciences. The institute has established a primary health care system through Basic Health Centers for the treatment of minor ailments and effective referral system., for secondary and tertiary care, Domiciliary midwifery. Family Planning, ophthalmology cell and community dentistry programmed are inter sect oral projects. The Institute is comprised of various departments like epidemiology, Nutrition, Biostatistics, Sociology, Community Psychiatry and Community Dentistry etc. Institute also contains a modern computer lab for the Postgraduate fellows. M.P.H. candidates are required to observe compulsory research projects before awarding degrees.

Courses

We offer undergraduate and post graduate courses in health and management sciences through a highly qualified faculty at affordable cost. The faculty comprises of two institutes:

Baqai Institute of Health Sciences [BIHS].

Community Medicine for undergraduates

The university has assumed responsibility of the health of a defined population in a rural area of Gadap. This population is 20,000. For the purpose of health services eight primary health care centers have been established for student involvement not only for demographic data collection but also in the health delivery system. One of these centers is designed as Social Obstetrics Unit.

MPH (Master of Public Health)

Keeping in view the dearth of managers in the country's health system, not infrequently resulting in inadequacy of implementation of the programs of various health plans in the country and also in the management of the available facilities in the rural and urban areas.

DURATION OF THE COURSE

The MPH programmed consists of 1 year study. There will be a total of 64 credit units.

Baqai Institute of Management Sciences [BIHS].

BBA (Hon's) Major in Health Management

This is a 3-year program. The eligibility for this course is:

Higher Secondary certificate (HSC) / Intermediate with a minimum of 50% marks

MBA Major in Health Management

This is a 1-year program for the those who have completed their BBA (Hon's) and a two year program for graduates from a recognized university.

Services

Faculty of Health and Management Sciences offers training in Health Management subjects. Community medicine is involved in providing free health care services in a radius of 50 kilometers.
